It’s disrespectful to mention Fela and me in the same sentence – Wizkid

Wizkid has urged his fans to calm down on who they compare him with following what went down in the wake of his historic performance at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London last year. With many taking to social media to draw comparisons between the pop star and late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, many of the older and more discerning music observers were left enraged as they feel Wizkid is a young music star who’s just on his way.
Taking a cue from the wise approach, Wizkid has shut down the comparisons in a recent interview with Hip TV, describing the comparison as disrespectful to the late legend. “No we can’t compare. Let’s not use that word ‘cause that’s like disrespect. That’s someone that inspires me.
You can’t mention Fela and Wizkid in the same sentence,” Wizzy, who has collaborated with Tinne Tempah, Chris Brown and Drake, among others, began. Speaking further, the multiple award winning star made it known that he remains one of those influenced by the late Afrobeat founder whose sphere of influence crosses boundaries across the globe. “I have him tatted (tattooed) on me, you can’t compare men. Fela inspires me,” he stressed.
